The Water Around the World

Today we learned where water comes from and why it is important to keep the water clean. During the time we were shown the different ways they test the water and make sure it is clean and safe for people to drink and safe for the animals in the lakes or rivers. It was very interesting to me when they told us that there are two types of drainage systems. One of the types is a sanitary line and these are the pipes that come from your house and go to the sewage plant to get cleaned and then the water is sent back out to the rivers. The other type of water drain is a storm drain and these are the drains that are in the ground where the water goes through the drain and goes straight into the river without being cleaned. Our group was told how dangerous this can be because the oil could go straight into the river and harm multiple life sources.

When this was brought to my attention I started to think of all the ways we could change this to help the environment. We were told that just by recycling plastic or by not using as much water it would help the environment grow instead of dying. There are multiple jobs when it comes to water treatment and each job is unique and helps in so many different ways. By listening to all of these people I learned how many different ways you can save the rivers and help preserve the Earth’s water supply.

By learning about where water comes from and how unclean water can affect everything in the environment it has helped me to find a different way to live deliberately. The reason why is because I can now see the big picture of the water cycle and production. Now that I know all this information I can see what I need to do to help preserve and protect my water. This helps me to live more deliberately because I now have a goal in mind to help not pollute the water. Today has helped me to open my eyes to see the big picture of how water can have an effect on everyone and everything.

This is the backpack I was given from the City of Dayton Water Source

The River, flowing and free

That held all the water, clear and cold

Where the fish, vibrant and active, swam all day

And the sand, tan and grainy, is river’s foundation

With the mud, damp and squishy, helping to build the solid ground

And the rocks, strong and rough, added the texture to river

With trees, bold and firm, adding the protection

And the hills, tall and wide, that caught the water and sent it back to the

River, flowing and free
