Life on The Farm

Our task for today was to find out what life was like on a farm. In the morning we started out by writing a narrative from the perspective of an object on the farm. This helped me to get in the mindset of what I expected the farm to be like at Carriage Hill. Once we got to the farm we headed towards the house to look at the animals and the different buildings. I got to see the blacksmith making the different metals for the farm. He was using all of these antique tools and it really showed me how we don’t always have to use the fancy things in life in order to get the job done. My favorite part of the whole day was probably petting the animals. I got to see different horses and I saw a little sheep. The sheep came up to me and my friend and we got to pet it and we even ended up naming it just because we liked it so much. I am proud to say that sheep number seven-five-five is named Daisy! The rest of the day was spent walking around the different parts of the farms and playing in the little creek. It was a lot of fun just taking in the nature sights with my friends and pretending that we were living on the farm.

As I look back on the day and think about the moments we had I can see how living on a farm would help you to live more deliberately. The reason why I feel like it would help is that there is a certain task that you have to do to get through the day. Also, when you are on a farm you are normally using things that you created on your own. You might be wondering how this would help you live deliberately and the answer is that you are constantly being reminded of why you are important and what your purpose is. Without people on the farm, it wouldn’t function. When you know your purpose you will keep going and keep trying to measure up to what you were the day before. At the end of the day, it helped me to realize that once I find my purpose I will know even more how to live deliberately.

The Little Farm Dog

My eyes opened to the bright sunlight. I could have sat there forever but I knew that if I didn’t move my short little legs soon enough I would have been in big trouble. Today was a busy day so I rolled over my long slim belly and got up. My first task was to head to the fence near the hen house to dig the holes in the ground. I hate to sound stuck up but I am the best hole digger around so I assume they are waiting up there for me.

Once I get to the fence I see one of my favorite humans, Jack. He came over to me and gave me tons of belly rubs, which are my favorite. I love Jack because he always finds time to play with me and to sneak me little snacks. When I was little Jack had more time to play but since then he has gotten older and has been given more responsibilities. It is okay though because I also have more task I have to get done, like teasing the pigs. After I finished digging all the holes for the fence I headed to the smokehouse.

When I finish hard work I always like to reward myself. Every day I sneak into the through the back door, which is cracked open, and I smell the glorious bacon. Slowly I lifted my front paws up on the small little counter and pulled the rest of my body up. The bacon was right in front of me, crispy and greasy. I ate it all in a total of ten seconds and I dashed out the door before the man with the big belly could get me.

My next task was to go to the pasture to tend to the sheep. I ran as fast as my stubby legs could carry me. On my way, I passed by Jack’s house and saw his little sister Beatrice who was wobbling all over the place. I went up and licked her little face then headed out to the pasture. When I got to the pasture I saw the sheep were very spread out. My job was to get them all together and I definitely did that. The sheep all listen to me because they love me so much, at least that is what Jack tells me. Sometimes I think that they all are chasing after me but I can never tell.

Once I finished all of my jobs for the morning I headed back towards my favorite tree and sat in the shade. My eyes slowly drifted closed as I thought about how I enjoyed every moment of my day so far. I love being a farm dog.
