Today was the day I was looking forward to the reason being was because we were going to go kayaking. When we got to school we started talking about how on the river we should take a minute to stop and listen to all the sounds. We were told that most of the world doesn’t stop to listen to anything anymore because of the different technology around us today. I was feeling very nervous but also super excited to go to the river. The reason I was nervous was that I was scared I would tip over but I was also really excited because I had never done anything like it before.
Once I got on the river and I started to get the hang of how to row I tried to look for a time where I could be “alone” to listen to the sounds of the Earth. As I sat there alone listening to the sounds I realized how much I never even noticed before. I hadn’t heard the sound of the breeze in such a long time and all of the sounds sparked so many joyful memories. This made me feel so excited to make even more memories and helped bring back the idea of living deliberately and focusing on the important things in life.
On the river, I noticed how kayaking can help me live more deliberately. What I mean by this is that when I was on the river I realized that sometimes I would be way ahead of all of my friends and other times I would be far behind them. This doesn’t really mean that much to other people but when I was on the river I realized that sometimes you can be at different places than everyone else but you are all going the same place and as long as you stay focused you will get there. When I stay on the river and I keep my eyes focused on everything in front of me and see where the rocky places are then I will get to the end goal safe and sound. Of course, it is not bad to fall out every once in a while but it is nice to keep your eyes up and look out for your surroundings in life and on the river. Overall I think the idea of all of this is good to keep in mind and it will help me listen, focus, and live more deliberately.

Writing Piece
Take the clear crystal water and the earthy smelling sand.
Mix your rocks with silt and pour it in.
Add your spring breeze and a pinch of salt and mix until it creates the perfect cool day.
Pour some grainy sand and some little insects into the rapid waters.
Cook inside a mud band full of crispy leaves at a cool and shady temperature,
Until there are light spots of the beautiful sun.
You can tell that it’s done when you hear the river’s music.
Let the river stand and cool until the rocks sink to the floor, causing ripples in the water.
Add a sprinkle of joy then slice and serve with a side of memories.
