Today we went to Delco Park to experience how big a small world can be. In the morning we walked to the park and started our metaphor class. This class was taught by a local author who specializes in writing scary stories and poetry. It was very interesting to see how he incorporated nature metaphors into his story. We then split off on our own and wrote our own metaphors about our surroundings. This was super enjoyable because I got to just stop and collect my thoughts on my surroundings. Everyone got a chance to share their writing pieces with each other at the end of the class.

Once we finished our class my group and I went over to set up our hammocks. We laughed and played and just an overall good day. My favorite part was when we were flipping in the hammocks and having competitions to see who could stay flipped the longest. It just made me laugh and smile because it was the perfect day to just sit outside and be with people who I care so much about. When I was finished eating lunch I decided to do the small world activity. In this activity, we had to lay down and mark off an area and look at the small “world” up close.

During this, I saw so many little adventures going on. When I looked down there was a knot in the grass. This made me think that it could have been a house for a little tiny ant or spider. As I looked around at this totally different world I saw things I had never seen before. I saw ants making their way home. I saw the grass fade to lighter shades and go into the dirt. I saw the little exchanges between all the insects. Down there I saw the world. As I got about the rest of my days I will try to keep in mind the idea of opening my eyes to the different worlds around me. I am very glad I got to go to Delco Park today and experienced a joyful day full of laughter and new experiences.

Writing Piece

The trees kept growing until they reached the sun.

The shades of green mixed together until it looked like the sunset in the sky.

The sun waved goodbye before it disappeared under the depressed clouds.

The birds are the instruments that create the Earth's beautiful music.
